What are the people that you work with like? Negative or positive? What I’ve found is most are negative to a varying degree, some a little, others a lot. One guy I used to work with. His glass wasn’t half empty, it had fallen on the floor, broken and the water had gone everywhere.
What are your work mate like? Negative or Positive?
The other day Alan, Phillip and I were sent out on site to fix a problem. We had to remove a conveyor belt on a machine that removes stones from bark chips for gardens. The belt has perforations(hole) in it so the water drains out of the bark. The problem was the holes were to big and the fine bark was getting caught and then building up on the drain tray so much that it was effecting the operation of the machine. The belt was made of a heap of plastic links and 100 mm tabs at the side to stop the bark going over the side.
Solution was to remove the belt off, take it back to the workshop and replace the link with ones with smaller hole and use the same side tabs.
Easy right? well it should have been.
Unfortunately some of the tabs got bent while transporting it back to the workshop. We replace all the links and it looked all ok. Took it back out a fitted it to the machine, and tensioned it. All good.
Then we test ran it, it started ok, but then then one of the tabs caught on the feed shoot, which sits down between the tabs just off the conveyor, and broke 1 tab and started bending the rest over as they overlap each other. Phillip hit the stop button. Alan checks out the damage “It’s f***ed, why did it do that? It was going alright the other day. Why’s it suddenly done that?
Alan and Phillip loosen the gearbox, backed the conveyor up and freed and straightened the bent tabs. While I loosen bolts and tweaked thing to get more clearance. But it didn’t work. We needed to go back and make a guard/guide to prevent the tabs from catching.
All the way back Alan kept going over “I can’t understand why it did it, we didn’t change anything, it’s not going to work!” etc etc.
We got the guide made and next morning headed out again. Phillip was a bit last in so didn’t come. Maybe he just didn’t want another dose of Alan’s negativity. We fitted and tested it, it caught again. And off he went again.
A couple more little tweaks and it was running ok.
But he still wasn’t happy and we had another dose of negativity on the way home.
It just wears you out sometimes.
Most of the time I just ignore it and do what needs to be done and think to myself how grateful I am to be a positive person that is able to see problems as challenges that require me to find a solution for.
This is one of the reasons why I’m educating myself and building an online business. So I can replace my income, leave the job with its negative people and associate with positive ones.
I am also very fortunate to be part of an online group, from Australia and New Zealand, that are positive so I can get a balance.
Listen to audios and videos of positive and inspirational people also helps.
Do you have negative or positive people that you have to deal with on a daily basis? How do you deal with the negative ones.
